Returnal Cheat Codes, Ether Farming, and Cycle Survival Guide for PS5

Returnal Ether farming, best weapon traits, Parasites guide, and biome-by-biome survival tips for PS5 and PC.

Returnal does not have cheat codes. The game includes an Ether farming system, a weapon trait progression that carries between cycles, and Parasite mechanics that most players ignore but that change survival rates significantly.

ETHER FARMING METHODS

Ether is the only resource that persists between death cycles. You use it to cleanse Malignant items, buy Scout Logs, and activate the Reconstructor.

Fastest Ether sources:
Collect Ether from glowing yellow fragments on the ground in every biome.
Each fragment gives 1 to 3 Ether depending on biome level.
Biome 3 and above gives an average of 2.5 Ether per fragment, compared to 1.5 in Biome 1.

Ether per cycle estimate:
A complete Biome 1 clear gives 40 to 60 Ether from fragments plus 10 to 20 from defeating the Phrike boss.
A complete Biome 3 clear gives 80 to 120 Ether total.
Target 100 Ether before activating the Reconstructor. The Reconstructor costs 6 Ether and gives you one free respawn per cycle.

WEAPON TRAIT PROGRESSION

Weapon traits unlock permanently as you use each weapon type across multiple cycles.
A weapon at Trait Level 3 deals significantly more damage than the same weapon at Trait Level 1.

Priority weapons to level first:
Hollowseeker: Acquires Portal Beam trait at Level 3. Portal Beam fires through walls and deals continuous damage.
Spitmaw Blaster: Acquires Wide Spread trait at Level 3. Wide Spread doubles the pellet count per shot.
Thermogenic Launcher: Acquires Persistent Burn trait at Level 3. Burn damage continues for 4 seconds after each hit.

Leveling weapons faster:
Use a weapon exclusively for one full biome rather than switching between weapons.
Sustained use on higher-health enemies gives more trait experience than killing low-health enemies.
Boss kills with a specific weapon give the equivalent of 50 to 100 standard enemy kills toward that weapon's trait level.

PARASITE GUIDE

Parasites attach to Selene and give simultaneous bonuses and penalties.
The bonus and penalty are always linked. Evaluate each Parasite before accepting it.

Best Parasites to keep:
Adrenaline Leech: Increases damage by 20 percent when your Adrenaline level is at maximum. Penalty: Lose 5 health when Adrenaline resets. Worth keeping if you maintain Adrenaline above Level 3 consistently.
Flagellant's Burden: Doubles Obolite drops from enemies. Penalty: Reduces maximum health by 15 percent. Worth keeping when you have 80 or more maximum health.
Destructive Resonance: Increases dash damage. Penalty: Drains 1 health per second when stationary. Worth keeping in biomes where you move constantly.

Parasites to remove immediately:
Any Parasite with a penalty that reduces your dash frequency. Dashes are your primary survival mechanic in Returnal. Reduced dashes cause deaths in every encounter.

BIOME SURVIVAL TIPS

Biome 1 (Overgrown Ruins):
Never fight Scouts (the basic humanoid enemies) at close range. Their melee attack deals 20 damage, which removes one health segment at low health levels.
Use the environment. Tall grass blocks enemy line of sight and lets you reposition for free.

Biome 2 (Crimson Wastes):
The Automaton enemies telegraph their shots with a 2-second charge. Dash at the moment the charge completes, not before.
Open every container in Biome 2. The Crimson Wastes contains the highest density of weapon alteration items per room.

Biome 3 (Derelict Citadel):
The Ixion boss uses a three-phase pattern. Phase 3 adds a screen-wide laser. Jump immediately when Ixion rises to maximum height.
The citadel rooms loop back on themselves. If you find yourself in a room you have already cleared, you are in the east wing, not the west wing. Check your minimap rotation direction.
